Developer Projects Intern

Remote ยท Pune Internship Developer projects

We are looking for a Developer Projects Intern who enjoys building things, experimenting with new technologies and figuring out how different tools and services work together.

In this role, youโ€™ll build real-world projects using Selfhost.dev and its templates, deploy and test them and document the entire process. Your work will help us understand different developer use cases while creating the foundation for technical blogs, tutorials, guides and other content for the Selfhost.dev community.

Youโ€™ll essentially use Selfhost.dev like a developer would: build it, deploy it, test it, document it and share what you learn.

What you'll do

  • Build practical projects using Selfhost.dev templates, databases, applications and other available services.
  • Experiment with different technology stacks and project ideas that developers could realistically build and deploy.
  • Deploy and host projects on Selfhost.dev and test the complete experience.
  • Explore the entire workflow from setting up a project to deployment, configuration, monitoring and day-to-day usage.
  • Identify bugs, friction points, confusing experiences or areas where the developer experience can be improved.
  • Document projects in detail, including setup, architecture, configuration, deployment steps and learnings.
  • Create technical documentation that can be turned into blogs, tutorials, guides, case studies and other developer content.
  • Work with the product and content teams to turn project learnings into useful, developer-focused articles.
  • Explore new templates, frameworks, tools and use cases that could be provided on Selfhost.dev.
  • Keep track of interesting project ideas and potential use cases for future content.
  • Help create a library of real projects and examples that demonstrate what developers can build and deploy using Selfhost.dev.
  • Where relevant, share completed projects in developer communities and discussions to gather feedback and showcase what was built.

You'll be a fit if

  • You genuinely enjoy building and experimenting with software.
  • You have a good understanding of how applications are developed, deployed and hosted.
  • You are comfortable working with different frameworks, tools, APIs, databases and services.
  • You enjoy figuring things out independently when you encounter something unfamiliar.
  • You can understand technical documentation and follow it to build and configure projects.
  • You are curious about cloud infrastructure, deployment, databases, DevOps and developer tools.
  • You can document what you build clearly enough that another developer can follow along.
  • You pay attention to details and notice when something doesn't work as expected.
  • You are comfortable testing your own work and troubleshooting issues.
  • You can communicate technical concepts clearly in writing.
  • You are comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a project from start to finish.
  • You enjoy trying new technologies rather than always working with the same stack.

Skills we are looking for

  • Good understanding of software development fundamentals and ability to build functional projects
  • Understanding of how applications are hosted, deployed and configured
  • Comfortable working with repositories, branches, commits and existing projects
  • Familiarity with frontend/backend applications and how they work together
  • Basic understanding of databases, queries, connections and database configuration
  • Understanding of APIs and how different services communicate with each other
  • Ability to investigate issues and troubleshoot when something doesn't work
  • Ability to clearly document technical processes, configurations and learnings
  • Willingness to explore unfamiliar tools and understand how they work

Nice to have

  • Experience deploying applications on AWS, Vercel, DigitalOcean, Railway, Render or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with Docker or containers.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, ClickHouse or other databases.
  • Familiarity with Linux and command-line tools.
  • Experience with frameworks such as Next.js, React, Node.js, Python or similar.
  • Experience building projects using open-source templates.
  • Experience writing technical blogs, tutorials or documentation.
  • Active participation in developer communities such as Reddit, GitHub, Hacker News, Discord or developer forums.
  • Interest in sharing projects and technical learnings with developer communities.

Why join us

  • Flexible work-from-home environment.
  • Build and deploy real projects on a real developer platform.
  • Get hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, databases, deployment and developer tooling.
  • Work closely with experienced engineers, product, design and content teams.
  • Your projects and learnings can become published technical blogs, tutorials and developer resources.
  • Learn how developers actually use and evaluate infrastructure products.
  • Opportunity to influence the Selfhost.dev experience by identifying real-world friction and use cases.
  • Build a portfolio of practical, deployed projects rather than just coding exercises.
  • Long-term opportunity based on performance.
  • Collaborative and growth-oriented team.

Apply with

  • Updated resume.
  • GitHub profile (optional)
  • Any projects you've built or deployed (optional)
